Sears Essentials was a chain of discount stores that owned by Sears Roebuck & Company. Their product lines were similar to that of Sears Grand stores except on a smaller scale with a very limited selection of household goods including pantry foods. There were initially 500 Sears Essentials stores that were rebranded from Kmart and Sears. Around 2008, 200 stores would close due to those stores being purchased by Ames Brands, and would be rebranded to Ames and Hills. Budget cuts across the company would mean 273 Sears Essentials would be either closed, sold, or rebranded as a Kmart or Sears, leaving only 27 locations left. Sears would close more Sears Essentials until by February 3, 2021, when the last Sears Essentials closed, marking the end to this branch of the company.
